Hard drive technology is steadily becoming more complex as spinning hard drives and solid state drives rapidly grow in size and speed. With each new push forward in hardware there are new compatibility considerations. Plugable is committed to staying on the cutting edge and improving our product functionality and compatibility.
Unlike our USB 3.0 hubs we do not automatically recommend updating to install the latest available firmware but rather carefully consider the impact a firmware update may make.
If you are experiencing problems with you dock, contact support first before trying to update the firmware!

Units with serial numbers beginning with 8 or lower used this chipset. Many units shipped with firmware version 2447 and should be updated to the latest 2580. Issues with older units are usually due to outdated USB 3.0 host controller drivers or faulty or extended USB 3.0 cables. These units are no longer supported and are out of warranty. Updating the firmware is at your own risk. Customers with older firmware may download this update utility: | Units with serial numbers beginning with 991, 101, or 102 could have firmware version 12092681f600 or 12092681f601. These versions have a special feature called sector emulation enabling use of more than 2.19TB of space on “Advanced Format” or 512e drives under 32bit Windows operating systems. We recommend firmware version 13022081f602 for most users. Newer docks beginning with serial numbers 103 and higher should already have this latest firmware. Updating from versions 12092681f600 & 12092681f601 to 13022081f602 will cause the unit to not be able to read data from any hard drive over 2TB written to by the old version without reformatting it first!
